Yes, there is definitely a sleep regression at 15 months. It can actually be between 12 months and 15 months, but it usually happens at 15 months. A sleep regression is a change in babies’ sleep routine or sleep pattern.
A sleep regression 15 months is a change in a baby’s sleep patten that occurs anytime between 12 months and 15 months of age.
It is totally normal for children to experience a regression in sleep out of the blue. It actually means they are doing great and growing the way they are supposed to it.

The 4 months sleep regression, the 6 months sleep regression and 8 months sleep regressions all occur right before the 15 month old sleep regression. They are actually sleep regressions after the 15 months one. There is one at 18 months and 2 years old.
Each change in sleep pattern is caused by a particular reason. However, you could overcome all of them by following a certain list of steps.
What causes the 15-month sleep regression?
The sleep regression 15 months is caused by several reasons including teething and nap transitions. Each sleep transition is caused by a particular reason as mentioned before.
All babies go through 4 months sleep regression. It is caused by biological reasons. Your children will sleep less because they have outgrown the sleep pattern of newborns.
So, this sleep regression has no solution. You just need to accept it.
The 8 months sleep regression is caused by emotions. 8 months old begin to get attached to parents.They develop separation anxiety.
They also also begin to love to explore what is around them. That is because they are more motor now. The excitement and the anxiety can cause this regression.

- Biologically, they are ready for one nap instead of two naps. They could also be ready for shorter naps.
This is called the nap transitions. Usually, babies need two naps in their first year after the newborn stage. Sticking to certain nap-times is great. However, at 15 months, most toddlers don’t need one of these naps. So, they begin to resist and wake up at night.
- They are teething and their molars are coming out.
Toddlers may also teethe at that time. Molars are quite painful. So, if you see signs of teething try to help them out. Some signs of teething are changes in eating patterns and touching the mouth or the ear.
- Separation Anxiety
Your child may become more attached to you. This could cause anxiety and great changes in your child’s behavior including their sleeping habits.

Usually, the 15 months sleep regression last from 2 weeks to a month. However, it can take much less time by staying consistent and adjusting your child’s nap time or bedtime according to what works best for your kid.
Also, remember each kid is different. The 15 months sleep regression may take more time than just a month or it may take two days. It really depends on your child, and how you, parents, adjust to their sleep patterns.

Some signs your toddler is going through the 15-month sleep regression are fussiness, restlessness, night waking, disrupted sleep, and refusing to sleep.

To get your 15 month old to overcome the 15 months sleep regression, you must look up how often and how long your child should be sleeping. Luckily, I did it for you.
A 15 month old should sleep for 11 hours at night (minimum) and one and a half to three hours in the day.
So, you should make sure what ever sleep routine you want to follow, you should adjust it to the biological needs of your baby.
The next step is to stick to the routine. Even if your baby refuses to sleep, stay consistent. Make sure you allow them to resettle on their own. Do not carry them. Do not rock them or they will consider that a routine.
If your child has two naps during the day, make it one nap. Just make that one nap a but longer ( 1-3 hrs).
Create a bedtime routine. You can give them baths before sleep, read to them or play calm music. Just keep in mind, to stay consistent. That would do the trick.

Please make sure your child is not hungry when he/she sleeps. Make sure to increase solids and give him/her milk if she/he shows hunger signs.

if your 15 months old is refusing to nap, I recommend sleep training your child. It is necessary for a 15 month old to sleep from 1-3 hours during the day. So, one nap would do the job.
Be consistent and explain to your toddlers they are expected to sleep. Train them to sleep on their own. As mentioned before, you can make this easier by creating a bedtime routine.
Transition them to quieter activities right before nap-time. Add soothing music to the routine. Do not by any means give up and rock your children. They must sleep on their own.
By giving in to those habits, you would be teaching your child to rely on you to sleep. If you give up and tell them it is okay not to nap, they may like it. However, this would harm them in terms of health.
They need to sleep during the night and during the day. As they grow older, nap-time could be taken out of the routine. But, 15 months is way too young for that.

15 Month Old Sleep Regression Wakes Up Early
If your child is just waking up too early you could do the following.
- Let them sleep later than usual. Sometimes, they are just getting too much sleep.
- Tell them to go back because it is too early to wake up. Do not make it a big deal.
- Make sure their surroundings are not waking them up. There could be too much light or excitement (toys).
- Buy a toddler clock. It would help them know when to wake up by using colors.
How do you sleep train your 15 month old?
There are so many ways to sleep train your 15 months old. This is how I sleep trained my child.
- Create a great sleep environment. Close the lights. Play music. Make sure t it is not scary (use a night light or a protector for stars.
- Place your child down full. Give them a bottle before bed.
- Tell them it is okay, and it is time to sleep.
- You can stay in the room until they fall asleep for the first day. During the second, stay inside for a shorter period of time. Just keep decreasing the time you stay inside the room with them until you can just simply leave.
Tips for Separation Anxiety
Many children experience separation anxiety when they need to separate from those who take care of them. This could cause major changes in a child’s routine. However, this is perfectly healthy.
Separation anxiety can start during the first year of a baby’s life and it can last for three years.
It is healthy for children to create strong bonds with the people they love, and there are ways to overcome this in a healthy way.
Here are tips for separation anxiety.
- Make separations easier by practice. Leave them at a family member’s house. Make sure they are aware you left, and run an errand for a few minutes. Come back to them and reassure them that everything is good.
- Don’t make good-byes a big deal. Tell them good-bye and kiss them. That’s it.
- Tell them the reality. Tell them where you are going and for how long. They may not understand, but make sure they have an idea. Make sure not to change the plan. They should trust you to come back when you told them you will come back.
- When you are away from them, make sure they have something else that comforts them. It could be a doll, toy or a blanket. This is called a security object. It would help them stay calm.
- Make sure they sometimes play independently. They need to realize you are not always there with them. Independent play will teach them many life skills.
- Stay consistent as always. Being separated from you would become a routine.

You should see a doctor about sleep regression if you feel something else may be going on with your child.
