Symptoms 8 DPO: Am I Pregnant?
It is possible to find out you are pregnant at 8 Days Past Ovulation. It is very common for women to want to know if they are pregnant before missing their period.
Being pregnant is a life-changing event, and there is nothing wrong with wanting to know as early as possible.
If you are having symptoms at 8 DPO, you are one of the lucky ones who get to know if they are pregnant early on. It is not common to feel any symptoms at 8 DPO because usually the level of the pregnancy hormone, human chorionic gonadotrophin, is not high yet.
What is happening to your body at 8 DPO?
At 8 DPO, your body is probably preparing for implantation if it hasn’t done so already. During ovulation, you release an egg from the ovary. If the egg is fertilized, the egg will begin to divide into two cells then four then it will keep dividing at a very fast rate.
At day 5 DPO, it becomes a blastocyst. It hatches and attaches itself to the uterine wall. It keeps burying itself deeper, and it will stay there for 9 months until you give birth.
At 8 DPO, the embryo would most likely have implanted and begun releasing the pregnancy hormone, HCG. HCG usually doubles every 48 hrs. So, as the days pass by, your HCG level will continue to increase as long as your pregnancy is healthy and normal. HCG rises soon after ovulation, right when conception occurs.
If there is HCG in your system, you could begin to feel symptoms. Here are the symptoms 8 DPO.
Pregnancy Symptoms 8 DPO
Pregnancy Symptoms 8 DPO include cramping, bleeding, headaches, food aversions, and tender breasts. Here is more detail on each 8 DPO symptom.
Cramps 8 DPO
Yes, you could begin to feel cramping at 8 DPO. I previously mentioned that once the embryo attaches itself to the uterine wall it will buy itself deeper into the lining.
This burying process could cause you to feel pinches or twitches in your lower pelvic area. This is known as implantation cramping. 30 percent of women experience.
It usually lasts from a few minutes to two days. It doesn’t hurt like period cramping. Some women never notice it or think it is normal. I remember when I felt it I knew I was pregnant. It literally feels like something is pinching you from the inside.
Implantation Bleeding 8 DPO
Sometimes implantation cramping is accompanied by implantation bleeding. They do not have to come together, and not all women experience this. I did not have implantation bleeding in any of my pregnancies.
One out of three pregnant women experiences this. It is usually a few drops of pink or red blood. It does not contain any clots, and it is much lighter than a period. You would notice the difference. It usually lasts from a few hours to three days.
Sometimes, bleeding in the first trimester is not implantation bleeding and could be normal. But, if you do experience an abundant amount of bleeding and you know you’re pregnant, call your doctor.
Headaches and Dizziness 8 DPO
When your embryo attaches itself to the uterine wall, your hormones will change drastically. Progesterone will increase to prevent your period from coming.
This fluctuation in your hormone levels can cause headaches in addition to many other symptoms. Headaches can be caused by more serious illnesses. So, if you do have headaches, call your doctor to figure out what’s going on.
You can relieve headaches by resting, drinking water, and staying away from chaotic situations. But, again call your doctor before relieving your headaches. It could be serious. It is better to be safe than sorry.
Fatigue 8 DPO
The fluctuation in your hormone levels during early pregnancy can cause fatigue too. A very high level of progesterone can cause fatigue and sleepiness. You may need to nap more.
Progesterone is very important for pregnancy, and it increases quickly to make sure your embryo stays in your uterine wall and you do not get your period.
If you feel tired, just rest and take it easy. You will get your energy back soon. Give your body the rest it needs to help grow a baby.
You may have constipation and gas at 8 DPO because progesterone tends to slow down the digestive system. This is totally normal, and you could avoid constipation by increasing your water intake and eating lots of fiber.
Because of the pregnancy hormone, HCG, some women may begin to feel nauseous at any time during their pregnancy. Morning sickness could start right after ovulation or at 6 weeks of pregnancy.
8 Days Past Ovulation Increased Urination
When you first become pregnant, your kidneys begin working much more. That is because pregnancy causes more blood flow. When your kidneys work harder, you urinate more.
Tender and Swollen breasts
This is a common symptom right before your period. But, during early pregnancy, changing hormones can cause your nipples and breasts to become highly sensitive, more than what you expect with your period.
I personally experienced this symptom. If you ate experiencing this, you should wear baggy bras and clothes to help relieve the symptom.
Did you know that when you first become pregnant, your body automatically starts to prepare your breasts for producing milk? It takes a long time to get them ready for breastfeeding.
Weird Tastes, Smells, Cravings, and Food Aversions
An increase in hormones like prolactin, progesterone, and estrogen can cause cravings and food aversions. You may feel like you could smell everything now.
It is common to not want to eat things you once liked like chicken and you may begin to eat things you usually hate.
Can you test for pregnancy at 8 DPO?
If you are pregnant, you can expect a very very very faint positive. It should get darker within a few days. But keep in mind it is best to take a pregnancy test after you miss your period (15 Days Past Ovulation).
Pregnancy tests detect the pregnancy hormones, HCG, in your urine. It takes time to increase, and as I mentioned before not all pregnancy tests can detect very early pregnancy.
If you are interested in knowing whether you could still be pregnant if you get a negative pregnancy test at 8 DPO, keep reading.
8 DPO and negative pregnancy test (BFN)
Are you going crazy because you were convinced you are pregnant, and you got a negative test on a pregnancy test at 8 DPO? Do not worry. False negatives are very common at 8 days past ovulation.
Implantation doesn’t always occur on 6 to 7 days past ovulation. It could happen anytime between 6 and 12 days past ovulation.
If you implanted after 6 days past ovulation, you may not have produced enough of the pregnancy hormone, HCG. It would then not show up on a pregnancy test, or you may have used a pregnancy test that is not highly sensitive.
Either way, a negative pregnancy test at 8 DPO does not guarantee that you are not pregnant. Don’t lose hope yet.
If you are the type that gets really sad when seeing a negative test like me, I recommend you wait until 15 days past ovulation before taking a test. I know this is easier said than done.
8 days past ovulation & positive pregnancy test (BFP)
Congrats, you got a positive at 8 DPO! You are one of the lucky ones that get early positives.
It is possible to get a positive at 8 days past ovulation especially if the embryo implanted early. If you used a sensitive pregnancy test that detects a level of HCG as low as 5 MIU/ML, then it is possible to get a positive.
Also, keep in mind to keep testing and make sure the line gets darker every 48-72 hrs. An early positive does not guarantee a successful pregnancy.
How accurate is a pregnancy test at 8 DPO?
A pregnancy test at 8 DPO is not highly accurate. As mentioned before, the chance of getting a positive on 8 DPO is low and very uncommon.
- 8 DPO: The probability of a pregnancy test being positive when you are pregnant is 25 percent.
- 9 DPO: The probability of a pregnancy test being positive when you are pregnant is 33 percent.
- 10 DPO: The probability of a pregnancy test being positive when you are pregnant is 42 percent.
- 11 DPO: The probability of a pregnancy test being positive when you are pregnant is 68 percent.
- 12 DPO: The probability of a pregnancy test being positive when you are pregnant is 81 percent.
- 13DPO: The probability of a pregnancy test being positive when you are pregnant is 93 percent.
- 14 DPO: The day of the expected period: The probability of a pregnancy test to be positive when you are pregnant is 96 percent.
- 15 DPO: The probability of a pregnancy test being positive when you are pregnant is 100 percent.
If you want to test at 8 days past ovulation, you could. But, if you get a negative, please retest in a few days. Symptoms at 8 DPO are uncommon but possible. Early pregnancy symptoms vary for every woman and every pregnancy.
Implantation bleeding and implantation cramping at 8 days past ovulation are common. So, wait a few days after implantation to test for pregnancy. You should get a positive then.
